[ Summary ] Since malignant tumors of the gallbladder easily infiltrate tissues surrounding the gallbladder, early and accurate diagnosis is important for patient management. However, specific clinical findings are usually lacking and imaging findings overlap between various structures of the gallbladder. Therefore, a precise preoperative diagnosis is sometimes difficult.
We describe characteristic imaging findings of gallbladder diseases with special emphasis on the differential diagnosis of the following diseases: gallbladder carcinoma, adenomyomatosis of the gallbladder, xanthogranulomatous cholecystitis, and cholesterol polyps. Typical imaging findings from MRIs are useful for differential diagnosis. Moreover, further improvements in diagnostic modalities and imaging technique are essential.
