[ Summary ] It is easy to identify the population at high risk of developing hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). Surveillance for HCC has been widely performed in Japan in those with chronic viral hepatitis and non-viral cirrhosis using abdominal ultrasonography along with tumor-marker tests. When a nodule is found by ultrasonography, dynamic CT or MRI is recommended to make a differential diagnosis. Recently, Gd-EOB MRI has possibly helped in the diagnosis of the HCC nodules, which do not show early enhancement and late washout.
