[ Summary ] Therapy for constipation is part of the basic medical skill set. The 2017 guidelines for the management of chronic constipation were published in Japan. The chapter of diagnosis of constipation includes ; in the flow of interview, physical examination, specimen examination, image examination, and examination conducted at a professional medical institution. The interview section includes : warning symptoms, concepts of risk factors, and an introductions to the Bristol stools scale. Specimen examination also refers to specimen testing for secondary constipation. Abdominal X‒ray examination, barium enema, and an endoscopic examination are introduced as an exclusion diagnosis, and these tests are given via referral on examination, which is carried out at a specialized facility.
