[ Summary ] | Chronic constipation is classified into these categories : organic defection disorder, normal transit constipation (NTC), slow transit constipation (STC), and outlet delay/outlet obstruction (OD). As potential causes of chronic constipation, small intestine movement disorder, colon movement disorder, and rectal‒anal movement disorder may not be clear‒cut and could overlap each other to form the overall disorder of chronic constipation. Although the state of each disease was unknown for a long time, new knowledge has been obtained by the gastrointestinal motility examination developed recently, and a detailed understanding of each pathological condition is expected in the future. |
