[ Summary ] Submucosal tumors, derived from the esophagus and gastric cardia, have been treated by thoracoscopic or laparoscopic surgery. POET (per-oral endoscopic tumor resection) was reported in 2012. Submucosal tumors, which are less than 5 cm in size, can now be safely treated by POET; however, large tumors, more than 5 cm in size, should be treated by conventional endoscopic surgery.
