[ Summary ] Among gastrointestinal submucosal tumors (SMTs), in principle, tumors remaining in the submucosal layer can be a good indication for endoscopic treatment. Endoscopic treatment is the most minimally invasive treatment if curative treatment is obtained by local resection. Endoscopic treatments such as endoscopic mucosal resection (EMR) and endoscopic submucosal dissection (ESD) are likely to be standard methods as they enable safe en bloc resection of SMT and accurate pathological diagnosis of the entire lesion. Endoscopic resection can also be performed as total biopsy where qualitative diagnosis is difficult.
