[ Summary ] |
Most of the submucosal tumors (SMTs) frequently observed in the duodenum are benign lesions such as Brunner's gland hyperplasia, cyst, and lymphangioma. Duodenal tumors such as neuroendocrine tumor, gastrointestinal stromal tumor, invasive carcinoma, lymphoma, metastatic tumor, and gangliocytic paraganglioma are rare but are indications for treatment. Color, shape, size, and consistency through touching with forceps are important factors in the differential diagnosis of duodenal SMTs based on white-light endoscopy. Endosonography is useful for further assessment of origin and internal echo, but biopsy from surface depression, erosion, or ulcer is recommended for SMTs with a negative cushion sign. |
