[ Summary ] For a successful treatment of the superficial esophageal cancer, diagnosis of the cancer depth and lymph node metastasis is crucial. Endoscopy provides substantial diagnostic information of the superficial esophageal cancer. High‒risk patients of esophageal cancer need special attention. The use of white light endoscopy provides clear view of the tumor, thus enabling the diagnosis of cancer depth via magnification endoscopy simultaneously. High frequency ultrasound probe is useful when there is a diagnostic gap between white light endoscopy and magnification endoscopy and the lesion appears like a submucosal tumor.
