[ Summary ] |
Endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (ERCP) is the gold standard technique for the diagnosis of biliary disease. However, endoscopic ultrasound‒guided fine needle aspiration (EUS‒FNA) may have a clinical impact on selected patients, such as those having advanced malignant biliary tumor, absence of obstructive jaundice, or an indeterminate diagnosis by ERCP. It is important to avoid puncturing the main pancreatic duct or lumen of the biliary tract, to prevent adverse events such as bile leaks, acute pancreatitis, or tumor seeding. Further prospective clinical research is needed to evaluate the clinical impact of EUS‒FNA for biliary disease. |
