[ Summary ] Colorectal cancer is one of the commonest cancers and causes of cancer‒related deaths in Japan. A key principle of the US or EU guidelines regarding surveillance programs after endoscopic treatment for colorectal tumors was risk stratification of patients based on the findings at the baseline colonoscopy. However, there is no evidence of surveillance periods and limitation after endoscopic treatment for colorectal tumors. Currently, the world is progressively aging, and the life span is approximately 80 years in Japan. As the aging society advances, the annual incidence of elderly patients with colorectal cancer has also increased. Our data showed that colonoscopy in elderly patients without severe comorbidities such as cardiopulmonary disease and renal disease was a safe and reliable procedure. Thus, the indications for surveillance colonoscopy after endoscopic treatment should be carefully considered and be based on the safe administration of oral polyethylene glycol in elderly patients.
