[ Summary ] Registered dietitians comprise the core team of nutrition support for liver disease at our hospital. In parallel, we perform nutrition consulting with multidisciplinary liver conferences to unify patient nutrition treatment plans and ensure efficient nutrition treatment performance. We require flexible correspondence to changes of disease status and the presence of complications in liver cirrhosis. For instance, since hepatic functional reserve is critical in perioperative period of liver cancer and esophageal varices, patients should ensure sufficient calorie intake by ingesting enteral nutrients for liver failure including branched chain amino acids as a late evening snack. However, due to reduced hospitalization duration, an increased number of patients are discharged from the hospital without adequate nutritional support. Therefore, nutrition support and counseling is essential for outpatients.
