[ Summary ] The cause of upper gastrointestinal bleeding is mainly divided into two groups, variceal bleeding and non‒variceal bleeding. The main cause of the latter is peptic gastroduodenal ulcers, and it is predicted that the number of hemorrhagic ulcers will increase with population aging because of the increase in the prescription of low‒dose aspirin. It is also expected that the number of cases of gastrointestinal bleeding from artificial ulcers created during endoscopic treatment will increase because endoscopic resection (ER) represented by endoscopic submucosal dissection (ESD) is becoming more widespread in recent years. In this chapter, we comment on the endoscopic hemostasis of non‒variceal bleeding based on the guidelines for endoscopic management of non‒variceal upper gastrointestinal bleeding published by the Japan Gastroenterological Endoscopy Society (JGES) in August 2015. The details of variceal bleeding and lower gastrointestinal bleeding will be discussed in another chapter.
