| [ Summary ] | Histological type diagnosis is essential in determining the treatment methods for early gastric cancer (EGC). Histological diagnosis of biopsy specimens is presently the gold standard for the diagnosis of cancer and its histological type. However, previous studies showed a 1.5 %‒8.0 % discrepancy in the histological types between biopsy and resected specimens. Older age, male sex, and elevated type were significant independent predictors for differentiated‒type EGC. A fine network pattern, vessels within epithelial circle (VEC), and white opaque substance (WOS) might be associated with the differentiated type. A corkscrew pattern and absent microsurface pattern might be associated with the undifferentiated type. | |
