[ Summary ] Fecal microbiota transplantation (FMT) has great therapeutic potential through the induction of symbiosis. FMT has worked extremely well against Clostridium difficile infection. Various strains of microbiota inhabit the human intestinal tract, and imbalance of the composition of the intestinal microbiota (dysbiosis) is associated with various gastrointestinal diseases, autoimmune diseases, and metabolic syndrome. Thus, induction of symbiosis of the intestinal microbiota may have therapeutic potential for gastrointestinal diseases. However, microbiota therapy to induce symbiosis in patients with certain diseases presents several challenges.
