[ Summary ] Percutaneous transhepatic cholangioscopy (PTCS) has recently been replaced with endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (ERCP) for removing common bile duct (CBD) stones. However, PTCS is a widely accepted, minimally invasive technique for treating cases in which the major duodenal papilla or ERCP could not be accessed. It is necessary to master the skill of PTBD to perform PTCS. Sixty patients had their CBD stones removed under PTCS in our institution. All the procedures were successful. The average period was 26 months and the recurrence rates after 1, 3, and 5 years were 5 %, 9 %, and 14 % respectively. In 6 cases which relapsed, CBD stones were removed under PTCS. It opens up the option of treatment for CBD stones to master a skill of PTCS.
