[ Summary ] Metallic stent placement has widely been used as a therapeutic alternative to surgical bypass for managing malignant gastric outlet obstruction. Recently, gastroduodenal stent placement has been performed more safely owing to the improvement of metallic stents. Several types of metallic stents have become available for malignant gastric outlet obstruction. Therefore, we need to understand the property of each metallic stent and choose the best stent for each situation of malignant gastric outlet obstruction. Furthermore, the treatment outcome of cancer that causes malignant gastric outlet obstruction has also been improved. More attention is required for the indication of metallic stent placement when an anti‒angiogenic agent is used for the chemotherapy after metallic stent placement. Metallic stent placement for malignant gastric outlet obstruction has been modified in accordance with the advancement of medical treatment.
