[ Summary ] Quantification of HBsAg is one of the methods used for monitoring the hepatitis B virus (HBV). HBsAg is associated with the clinical stage and hepatocarcinogenesis among naïve HBe‒negative and low replicated HBV DNA patients. HBsAg as well as HB core‒related antigen might be useful for predicting the response among HBV patients who are receiving anti‒HBV therapy. To prevent de novo hepatitis due to HBV reactivation, HBV DNA monitoring is recommended during chemotherapy, but a convenient high‒sensitive HBsAg assay might be enough for preventing hepatitis among some groups.
