[ Summary ] To analyze the accuracy of endoscopic screening, we should begin by identifying false and true positives and eventually identifying false and true negatives. The false negative must be defined as a case wherein cancer was not detected at the initial endoscopic screening, but gastric cancer was detected by a medical examination within two years, or during the next screening after two years. Quality control of endoscopic screening would require identification of false negatives extracted by the system in comparison with the cancer registry. As many false negatives might occur, a second interpretation system should be required for endoscopic screening in order to improve the quality of pictures and reduce the false negatives.
