[ Summary ] |
Antispasmodic drugs, sedatives and analgesic drugs used in colonoscopic diagnosis and treatment can eliminate patient anxiety and discomfort. Moreover, these drugs can help endoscopists to improve the outcomes of colonoscopic examination and treatment. Recently, demands for sedation in endoscopic practice are increasing. In December 2013, the Japan Gastroenterological Endoscopy Society, in collaboration with the Japanese Society of Anesthesiologists, and in accordance with EBM (evidence based medicine) developed "Guidelines for Sedation in Gastroenterological Endoscopy". In a practical clinical site, endoscopists need to understand the benefits and risks of sedation, the characteristics of each sedative drug, each patient's preference and background, and the approach to treat adverse events during drug use. |
