[ Summary ] The principal aim of colonoscopy is to prevent colorectal cancer. The quality indicators of an excellent colonoscopic examination have been established in Western countries. The national endoscopy societies recommend such indicators and each endoscopist reveals his/her achievement, thus enabling quality control in Western countries. Likewise, in Japan, these kinds of indicators should be prepared and announced.
