[ Summary ] In Japan, the measures against viral hepatitis defined by the "Hepatitis Countermeasures Basic Law,"which was established in 2010, have been effectively promoted. By 2000, the number of persons who were not aware of the persistent infections caused by the hepatitis virus was estimated to be 2.0‒2.4 million, but in 2011, this number was reduced to an estimated 0.78 million. In addition, it is clear that the infection rate of the hepatitis C virus (HCV) in the general population has significantly lowered. Therefore, if the HCV carriers receive treatment annually till 2030, the number of Japanese HCV carriers would likely reduce significantly in the near future.
However, several problems remain for each prefecture that is currrently in the process of introducing the treatment introduced from hepatitis virus inspection.
