[ Summary ] The current colorectal ESD/EMR guidelines were released in April 2014, and were developed based on the consensus opinion of The Japanese Society for Cancer of the Colon and Rectum, The Japan Society of Coloproctology, The Japanese Society of Gastroenterology, and The Japan Gastroenterological Endoscopy Society (JGES). These guidelines include recommendations for long convalescence periods and information on treatment indications, pretreatment diagnosis, the technical requirements of ESD/EMR, pathological diagnosis, long‒term prognosis, and complications associated with ESD/EMR. In this chapter, I outline my opinion as a surgeon operating according to the ESD/EMR guidelines.
