[ Summary ] Many techniques exist for the resection of polyps. Endoscopists must select the appropriate resection approach for resectable lesions after evaluating patient information such as age and underlying diseases, lesion size, suspicion of cancerous lesion, and so on. Smaller polyps (<5 mm) are treated using cold forceps polypectomy, hot biopsy, or polypectomy. Lesions 5‒20 mm in size that are not suspected of being cancerous are treated using polypectomy. In contrast, lesions suspected of being cancerous are treated using EMR. Lesions ≥20 mm in size are treated using ESD, whereas those that are not suspected of being cancerous can be treated using piecemeal EMR. Endoscopists should know each of these resection methods, and should select the most appropriate technique and gain informed consent from the patient.
