[ Summary ] The primary aim of examining resected specimens is to supply clinicians with essential diagnostic and prognostic information, thus enabling the best clinical management of individual patients. The handling of specimens includes stretching the fresh specimen, fixing the specimen in formalin, taking gross photographs, cutting the fixed specimen, embedding in paraffin, sectioning, and staining routinely with hematoxylin and eosin. The best clinical pathology service can only be obtained when there is close cooperation and understanding between the pathologists and clinicians.
