[ Summary ] These guidelines for sedation and anesthesia in gastrointestinal endoscopy are intended to indicate the preferred procedural approaches and solutions for problems encountered by physicians in clinical practice. The guidelines were published in December 2013 by a committee of experts from the Japan Gastroenterological Endoscopy Society, Dr. Makoto Ozaki from the Society of Anesthesiologists, and Dr. Masahiro Yoshida. The scientific validity of these guidelines was confirmed using an evidence‒based medicine (EBM) approach. They comprise twelve clinical questions and fourteen statements, and were evaluated according to the evidence level and grading by Minds using the Delphi method.
