[ Summary ] The elderly population is rapidly increasing. As individuals age, a variety of changes occur in every organ. These physiological changes in the elderly are usually associated with chronic diseases, including cardiovascular diseases, diabetes, and hyperlipidemia. For these conditions, the elderly are prescribed multiple medications. The prevalence of certain colonic diseases increases with age ; the representative colon diseases of people aged over 80 years (the super‒elderly) are ischemic colitis, colonic diverticula, and colon cancer. It is important to understand the characteristics of colon disease in the super‒elderly and to reflect this in daily medical practice.
