[ Summary ] As the number of children with inflammatory bowel disease, eosinophilic gastrointestinal disorders, and other gastrointestinal disorders has increased, more children are undergoing diagnostic or therapeutic endoscopy even in infancy. Endoscopy is regarded as an invasive procedure for children, but the delay in conducting endoscopy might results in an unnecessary delay in the diagnosis of a gastrointestinal disorder.
This chapter focuses on gastrointestinal disorders in infancy or childhood that require endoscopy for diagnosis or treatment.
It is very important to differentiate these diseases from other non‒gastrointestinal disorders that might be complicated with a growth delay or delayed puberty.
