[ Summary ] An accumulating body of evidence suggests that Japanese herbal medicines, known as Kampo, have beneficial effects in the treatment of patients with functional gastrointestinal disorders. In this review, we summarize the currently available literature regarding the clinical efficacy and potential mechanisms of Kampo medicines in the treatment of functional dyspepsia and irritable bowel syndrome.
