[ Summary ] Patients whose dyspepsia symptoms disappeared after 12 months of Helicobacter pylor (H. pylori) eradication therapy were determined to have H. pylori‒associated dyspepsia (HpD), which is clearly distinct from functional dyspepsia. Eradication therapy is recommended as first‒line treatment for H. pylori‒positive dyspepsia. It has been reported that the severity of dyspepsia symptoms is correlated with oxidative stress in the gastric mucosa caused by H. pylori infection. The altered ghrelin secretion from the stomach and altered expression of miR‒1 and miR‒133 in the gastric smooth muscle layer are also important mechanisms that could explain the association between dyspepsia and H. pylori infection. According to a recent meta‒analysis, H. pylori eradication is more effective than placebo with a number needed to trea (NNT) of 13 for H. pylori‒positive dyspepsia.
