| [ Summary ] | Pillcam® patency capsule, which was commercially introduced three years previously, has expanded the indications of small bowel diseases for capsule endoscopy. The usefulness of Pillcam patency capsule and methods to evaluate intestinal patency are well established. In this section, we aim to identify the criteria to choose an appropriate investigation method among capsule endoscopy, balloon enteroscopy, or fluoroscopic enteroclysis based on factors related to small bowel patency. It is occasionally difficult to examine the entire small bowel for lesions, especially in conditions such as Crohn's disease. Hence, the use of capsule endoscopy to identify these active lesions may be very beneficial. Here, we will focus on identifying the initial investigation of choice based on the proper usage of Pillcam patency capsule. | |
