[ Summary ] Patients with biliary tract cancer frequently have complications such as malignant biliary obstructions and receive biliary stent placements. In cases of hilar biliary obstructions, more complicated biliary stenting is required to manage malignant biliary obstructions. Malignant enteral obstructions occasionally occur when the cancer becomes more advanced. In cases of duodenal or colonic obstructions, enteral stenting may be used to manage malignant enteral obstructions. If these biliary and enteral complications are not managed successfully, the patient will not be able to receive appropriate anti-cancer treatments. Therefore, we need to understand the proper use of stents, used to clear malignant obstructions. We review the features of a variety of new biliary and enteral stents, which are used in Japan.
