| [ Summary ] | The liver is a primary organ, involved in nutritional metabolism. Therefore, metabolic abnormalities related to nutritional elements gradually develop in line with the severity of liver damage. For nutritional management of liver disease, it is necessary to evaluate liver functions and to understand the patientʼs nutritional status including protein-energy malnutrition (PEM), impaired glucose metabolism and protein intolerance. These are determined by referring to anthropometric values and various biomarkers. It should be recognized that nutritional therapy for patients with liver disease can decrease the progression of hepatic failure and improve patient QOL. | |
