| [ Summary ] | The treatment strategy for Barrett's adenocarcinoma is determined by depth of tumor invasion, location of the tumor, length of the Barrett's esophagus and pattern of lymph node metastasis. Generally, Barrett's adenocarcinoma is treated the same way as esophageal squamous cell carcinoma or adenocarcinoma of the gastro-esophageal junction. There is no international consensus concerning the operative procedure or extent of lymph node dissection for Barrett's adenocarcinoma. If Barrett's adenocarcinoma is observed, cervical lymph nodes may test positive in advanced cases. In such cases, esophagagectomy with three-field lymph node dissection may be indicated along with neoadjuvant therapy. | |
