[ Summary ] The role of endoscopy in diagnosis of chronic pancreatitis are reviewed. When employing ERCP, interpretation of specific findings in the main and branch duct is necessary. Use of EUS, leads to an understanding of image findings of early chronic pancreatitis, which is important. Efforts to find slightly abnormal findings concerning the pancreas are required in daily practice. EUS-elastography, which can evaluate tissue elasticity, has become available in recent years. It is expected to become a novel technique for diagnosing chronic pancreatitis. Endoscopic diagnosis is a more invasive technique than trans-abdominal ultrasonography, computed tomography (CT), or magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). However, when ERCP and EUS are performed safely and accurately, these techniques allow us to diagnose atypical cases of chronic as well as early cases of pancreatitis.
