[ Summary ] To eradicate H. pylori infections, exact diagnosis of H.pylori infection is required. This is especially true in younger patients for whom the results of H. pylori eradication provide excellent response.
Diagnosis of H. pylori infection should be based on a differetiation between uninfected, infected, and those in the eradicated category, not be based on a differentiation between positive or negative status. Proper diagosis requires exact validation of H. pylori diagnostic tests and endoscopic findings.
Cut off values for anti-H. pylori antibody tests are set higher to avoid false positive diagnoses. Cut off values for pepsinogen are applied only to those infected with H. pylori, not those who are uninfected or those having had eradication therapy. To achieve exact diagnoses of H. pylori infection, with these two tests (ABC test), new standards are required.
