[ Summary ] Concerning curative methods for carcinoid tumors, employing local resection in the rectum, the aspirational EMR method is primarily used because it is easy and efficacious. However remaining lesions after endoscopic excision or multiple biopsies are indications for ESD because of the assessment pathology specimens, and the safety of dissection provided. In addition we think that ESD may be adaptated to treatment of lesions following observance of lesions which are flat and difficult to position. Lesions which are determined to be composed of carcinoid cells often nest in scattered sites and are observed histologically. Deep lesions may be indistinct when viewed with EUS. Lesions such as these present greater risk of perforation when in the upper side than those near the peritoneum.
