[ Summary ] Colorectal ESD is a technically-demanding endoscopic procedure. For further dissemination of colorectal ESD techniques, establishment of training programs is imperative. Before beginning to perform colorectal ESD, trainees must acquire a high level of skill in total colonoscopy, magnifying endoscopy, and polyp resection. The first step of our training program is for trainees to observe and assist in colorectal ESD performed by experts. After performing a few cases of ESD procedures using animal models, trainees should begin by treating rectal lesions as preliminary colorectal ESD cases. Traineesʼ motivation is indispensable for successful completion of training. Trainers also need to be highly skilled not only technically, but also in comprehensive course management in order to successfully carry out all steps of training. We believe that certification of ESD trainers is essential.
