[ Summary ] Endoscopic mucosal resection (EMR) or endoscopic piecemeal mucosal resection (EPMR) techniques are still important as treatment methods for colorectal neoplasms even after the advent of endoscopic submucosal dissection (ESD) techniques. The requirements for successful EMR/EPMR are considered to be as follows : 1) correct diagnosis of the depth of invasion before EMR/EPMR, 2) skillful use of endoscopic treatment techniques, 3) well-planned EPMR procedures which do not divide areas with heavy invasion, 4) observation of the resected margin, using magnifying endoscopy, and trimming of residual tumors, 5) complete retrieval of resected specimens and 6) accurate histopathological evaluation. The major complications associated with EMR/EPMR are bleeding, perforation and remnants of recurring tumors.
