[ Summary ] In our hospital, gastroenterological surgeons perform procedures to treat colorectal tumors ranging from endoscopic treatment to surgery. We have a full understanding of the advantages and complications associated with each modality. Colorectal ESD brought about changes in strategies for treatment of colorectal tumors. Since ESD was added as a treatment for colorectal tumors, there will likely be more patients undergoing additional surgery after ESD and more patients not receiving ESD. In institutions which perform ESD, it is necessary endoscopists and surgeons establish close cooperative ties concerning patient needs, safety and curability provided by treatment, as well as correspondence concerning perforations or interruptions. Furthermore, thoroughly informed consent regarding the necessity for additional surgery is important.
