| [ Summary ] | Malignant diseases of extrapancreatic organs that occur in 20-30 % of patients with intraductal papillary mucinous neoplasms (IPMN) can be either synchronous or metachronous. The frequency and location of extrapancreatic malignancies differ from country to country. The relationship between IPMN types and extrapancreatic malignancies is controversial, although the latter sometimes affects the prognosis of patients with IPMN, particularly in those with benign or non-invasive IPMN. Implementing a screening system for early diagnosis and treatment of extrapancreatic malignancies may help to achieve better prognosis in patients with IPMN. | |
