| [ Summary ] | Because of the recent development of biologics, calcineurin inhibitors and drug delivery systems, modes of treatment for inflammatory bowel diseases (IBD) have become diversified. As a result, the importance of proper imaging diagnosis has grown. "Luminal" assessment by endoscopic examination alone is not adequate. However, "cross-sectional" assessment with US, MRIs and CTs is also essential to assess the level of intestinal inflammation. CTCs may produce useful images of gas filled regions, as do multiplanar reconstruction images which help us to formulate proper diagnose. Monitoring of IBD may be better tolerated and safer for patients with IBD. However, to reduce radiation exposure, it is essential to create CTC standards for IBD. | |
