[ Summary ] Clinical practice guidelines are systematically developed statements to assist practitioners and patients in making appropriate decisions. In the future, they are expected to be useful in clinical medicine in Japan. There are still many problems to be solved such as how to develop, update, use and assess the guidelines. To integrate "evidence", "expertise" and "patient preference" it is recommended we utilize evidence-based medicine. Clinical practice Guidelines are developed to use these three components with consensus formation and to reveal recommendation grades. Regular revision is recommended.
