[ Summary ] Takasaki City introduced a new method for mass screening of gastric cancer. This method has been use to evaluate the risk for individual subjects by examining serum H. pylori antibody and pepsinogen levels (ABC risk stratification gradient) since 2006. We analyzed the results from 2006 to 2010. ABC risk stratification particularly increased the number of gastric cancer cases diagnosed through screening and markedly reduced both total screening costs, and detection costs for gastric cancer cases. In addition, to the number of patients treated for H. pylori (successful eradication) the rates of those with the infection has been increased gradually, and reached 23 % (17 %) in 2010. Since 2011, ABC risk stratification has been performed for people aged 40 and every 5 years older. This is a secondary preventive method for primary prevention through H. pylori eradication. The serum H. pylori antibody test and treatment program for 20-year olds as a primary preventive measure for gastric cancer was also introduced in 2011.
