[ Summary ] Diet and exercise therapies should be the first and foremost treatments for nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) and nonalcoholic steatohepatits (NASH). Body weight management improves not only transaminase, γ-GT and total cholesterol levels, but also insulin resistance and histological features (ex.fibrosis and steatosis). We suggest diet any therapy to maintain appropriate total calorie intake levels (25-30 kcal/kg/day) and prohibition of daytime snacks. Furthermore, late evening snacks (LES) for prevention of hypoglycemia during sleep and BCAA supplementation are recommended for cirrhotic patients with NASH. In terms of exercise therapy, we recommend an daily aerobic activity (more than 20 minutes). Patients should receive care from their families and medical staff members including physicians, nurses and dieticians as well as physical activity specialists.
