[ Summary ] Lifestyle modification, including eating habits and physical exercise play major roles in the prevention of obesity. If individuals maintain balanced diets and undertake adequate physical exercise, real benefits for the prevention of obesity may be obtained. Effective strategies to reduce the incidence of obesity and to assist in managing the condition are urgently required. There has been progress in the development of behavioral strategies to modify these lifestyle related habits. Lifestyle intervention is associated with restricted weight gain and a trend towards a reduced prevalence of metabolic disorders in the overweight and obese population. We describe behavioral therapy for obesity through modified diets and increased physical activity.
