[ Summary ] The first-line treatment for gut and pancreatic neuroendocrine tumors is surgery. However, inoperative cases and cases with metastasis are treated with therapies including somatostatin analogs. Recent studies have shown that somatostatin analogs not only inhibit excess hormone secretion and ameliorate clinical symptoms but also stabilize tumor and prevent disease progression. Therefore, somatostatin analogs are indicated for treatment of both functioning and nonfunctioning neuroendocrine tumors.
