[ Summary ] Capsule endoscopy (CE) and double-balloon endoscopy (DBE) are effective modalities for producing images of the gastrointestinal (GI) mucosa. These methods have been approved for use in Japan since April 2007. Capsule endoscopy has become an essential examination tool for obscure GI bleeding. Despite the overall increase of CE examinations in Japan, this procedure is not common in Ibaraki Prefecture. A network to interpret CE examination information may be one strategy to resolve this problem.
We have constructed the "Ibaraki Capsule Endoscopy Network", which includes ten facilities:Hitachi General Hospital, Hitachinaka General Hospital, the National Hospital Organization Mito Medical Center, Ibaraki Prefectural Central Hospital, Koyama Memorial Hospital, Tsukuba Memorial Hospital, Tsukuba Gakuen Hospital, the Tsukuba Central Hospital, Ryugasaki Saiseikai Hospital and the Ibaraki Seinan Medical Center Hospital which are connected to Tsukuba University Hospital. We are attempting to expand the network to familiarize all medical professionals in Ibaraki prefecture with it.
We introduce an outline concerning the operation of the Ibaraki Capsule Endoscopy Network.
