| [ Summary ] | Implementation of percutaneous catheter drainage (PCD) is indicated in patients with large, persistent, complicated pancreatic pseudocysts (PPCs). Though few cases of PPCs following acute pancreatitis and chronic pancreatitis are resolved with PCD, cases where the patient is in poor general condition and/or has infectious PPCs are good candidates for this procedure. Most cases of PPCs following chronic pancreatitis are treated with endoscopic drainage or surgical drainage such as cystogastrostomy or cystojejunostomy. PCD, generally accomplished guided by computed tomography and/or ultrasound, is an important and valuable procedure for clinical gastroenterologists. | |
