[ Summary ] The principal treatment for acute cholecystitis is cholecystectomy in the acute phase. Drainage should be applied primarily to patients with moderate to severe acute cholecystitis. Percutaneous transhepatic gallbladder drainage (PTGBD) requires a drainage tube into the gallbladder. Percutaneous transhepatic gallbladder aspiration (PTGBA) is a simple drainage technique to aspirate gallbladder bile. Randomized controlled studies with large numbers of patients to evaluate these drainage methods are required.
