[ Summary ] Currently, surgical procedures for esophagogastric varices are considered to be supplementary to endoscopic treatments and interventional radiology. There is controversy as to which treatment for hypersplenism is better, splenectomy or partial splenic embolization. Now, a relatively frequent surgical procedures for portal hypertension are Hassabʼs operation and splenectomy. Recently, opportunities to laparoscopically perform these procedures have increased.
